STUDENTS ABOUT US

Students' impressions of studying at FOV

Anja Vidmar, student of Organization and Management of Human Resources and Educational Systems

I chose to study at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences because I wanted to either manage the HR function in a company or be involved in project organisation and management. The deciding factor in choosing this faculty was the friendly attitude of the professors towards the students, the possibility to study at a distance and the pleasant atmosphere at the information days.
After finishing my studies with some work experience and continuing my studies at another faculty, I can say that the FOV has given me a lot of basic knowledge that can be built on with additional training. I remember that in the first year, the emphasis was on understanding how the company works and the HR function. We graphically designed an organisational structure for a specific company and staged the processes that take place in the company. We were introduced to the "Project" software, where we played the role of project manager and designed everything from the project timeline to resource allocation and implementation. After my studies, I am very familiar with the role of the HR manager in the company and his tasks, the state of the labour market, and my thesis specialised in the management of older employees in the company. As an improvement to the faculty, I would suggest more lectures based on practical examples (case studies) and the inclusion of subjects that cover at least partly finance and the basics of microeconomics.
I must highly commend the close cooperation between students and professors. I think this is something that will always remain in my memory. The faculty invited me to participate in various projects, one of the most interesting was running a student journal, participating in the teaching process as a demonstrator, participating in writing articles, presenting a paper at a conference... Faculty is not demanding, but it is much more demanding to defend your degree in front of an employer. That's when it becomes clear who really studied. The professors at the faculty gave me confidence and motivation to set higher goals and continue my education. I know where to find information or who to turn to when I need it. You only learn the specifics when you get into the company.
The most fun memories are tied to the organisational challenge competition. I still remember how intense it was to present an idea in English. It was also at that time that I decided to pursue my postgraduate studies at a college that offered more entrepreneurship courses and study in English.

I conclude with this thought: FOV has an individual approach to students who are willing to learn. The faculty does not put you in boxes, but lets you think with your own head and keep your creativity. The best feature of a faculty can be dangerous if there is a lack of discipline.

Omar Husejnagić, student of the Organization and Management of Human Resources and Educational Systems programme

At the end of my Master's studies at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences, I am convinced that I made the right choice. Already in high school I started to study with interest the field of human resources and how to manage them properly in modern/evolving work environments. My family influenced my decision to move from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Slovenia to pursue my studies and professional career.
From a very young age, I was most interested in classical music, so my parents enrolled me in a music school where I played the violin. My next passion was and still is horses.
The staff at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences are very professional, supportive and fully committed to their students. Thanks to their efforts, in my second year of studies I managed to write a research paper on the impact of the global pandemic on the educational process, which was awarded as the best paper at the scientific conference in Portorož in 2022. Based on my academic results, the faculty rewarded me with educational trips to the Czech Republic and Germany. The knowledge and skills acquired at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences have enabled me to get a full-time job in one of the most prestigious Slovenian translation and localisation companies.
My next goal is to become a university lecturer and combine this with entrepreneurship, thus inspiring young people with my knowledge and experience. At the same time, I want to become a trained dressage rider and to introduce future generations to the magic of dressage riding.

I conclude with the thought: "No hour of life is wasted if it is spent in the saddle." - Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill

Vladimir Todorovic, student of Enterprise Engineering programme

With the change of environment and coming from Serbia to Slovenia, I wanted to feel new challenges. After five years in Belgrade, I wanted to live in a small town. The Department of Enterprise Engineering teaches me to understand how business and production systems work, how they are organised and how they are managed, as well as analytical solutions to all possible problems that separate us from our final goal.
As a foreign student, I was worried about whether my colleagues and professors would accept me. On the first day, all my worries disappeared. The professors in every course spend a lot of time with us foreigners. They organise extra sessions to help us master the material. They teach us the theoretical basics with innovative and practical examples. During lectures and exercises, we are often divided into groups and the teachers encourage teamwork and approach problems from a different angle through workshops or case studies. I like the way the timetable is organised, because there are almost never any major breaks between two lectures. The Moodle platform has also proved to be very useful, as the professors upload all the necessary literature, interesting articles and other types of material to it. Distance learning is also done via this platform. Self-paced e-tutorials can earn extra points and make it easier to pass the exam.
During my studies, I took part in a case study competition. This competition was an enriching journey that brought me a great new experience and also the first important contact with company representatives. In the academic year 2019/2020, I also participated in the project "Identification of gaps and development guidelines for the ACC (Aviation Career Centre) training programme for participants in the field of organisation and management". For a few months, I worked in the project team with the students of the FOV senior year. By sharing and using all the acquired knowledge, skills and with the help of the mentors, we successfully implemented the whole project. After the project, all participants were rewarded financially and with new experiences, knowledge and friendships.
There are many advantages of staying in a student hostel in Kranj. The faculty is less than two minutes away from your room. The dormitory provides enough comfort for rest, socialising and, if necessary, studying. The social life in the dormitory is very dynamic, and so far I have had the opportunity to meet dozens of international students from all over the world. There are plenty of sports grounds in the area, which makes my free time much more active.
I recommend studying at FOV UM, staying in the student residence and Kranj to everyone.

I conclude with this thought: If you don't go after what you want, you will never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you are always in the same place. (Nora Roberts)

Aljaž Ferencek, student of Organization and Management of Information Systems
FOV offered me many opportunities to gain knowledge and experience outside the classroom, to work on projects and, among other things, to do an optional internship in a company. All of this, in my opinion, would not have been possible if it had not been for professors who treat students not just as a registration number, but as a colleague.

Andrej Zupan, student of the Organisation and Management of Information Systems programme
The Faculty of Organizational Sciences offers one of the most interdisciplinary studies in Slovenia. During our studies, we were offered a number of different opportunities where we could complement our knowledge with practice through various case-study programmes, company visits, project assignments in companies, etc. Students had open opportunities and those colleagues who took advantage of them at that time, I meet in the business world on a daily basis at various workplaces in various well-known companies and organizations. The professors at the college care and have worked hard to increase the level of employability after graduation. If I decide to go to university again, I will re-enrol at FOV and take part in more of the projects that have been offered to us!

Blaž Sašek, student of the Organization and Management of Information Systems programme
At FOV, the student comes first. If you want to improve any knowledge or competence, most of the professors will help you without any questions. Participating in projects, competitions, extracurricular activities and conferences opens a lot of doors and helps you realise your potential.

Rok Cilenšek, Enterprise Engineering student
In my own company of mechanical engineers, economists, etc., I try to present my studies in a non-stereotypical light. Since we often talk to mechanical engineers about "their" topics, I think they slowly understand that we gain useful knowledge at our faculty.

Igor Stojič, student of the Enterprise Engineering programme
Through the educational process, students are shown a rather broad "picture" or it opens up a comprehensive view of business and the functioning of organisations. This is made possible by the varied curriculum of the individual years of the Bachelor's degree programme, which covers a number of different scientific fields, i.e. both natural and social sciences, as well as by lectures and the transfer of knowledge from practice from experts in each field.

Julij Fischer, student of the Organization and Management of Human Resources and Educational Systems programme
Because I like working with people, I decided to study HR. I have learnt about leadership, teamwork and conflict resolution, but above all about organising work tasks. My studies have given me the opportunity to work independently. I intend to develop the idea developed in my thesis further and transfer it to the economy after I have finished my studies.

Leja Guzelj, student of Organization and Management of Information Systems
FOV has many links with companies, organises lectures by experts in various fields and provides opportunities to participate in various conferences and projects, where students can gain a lot of knowledge and good practical experience. The professors are approachable and happy to help, and they do their best to present the most up-to-date topics.

Marcel Potrata, Enterprise Engineering student
Students gain competences in a large number of areas: economics, law, supply chains, working with programmes that are either general or more in-depth, but quickly give them an advantage over job seekers from other faculties.

Maruša Miklavčič, student of the Enterprise Engineering programme
The professors are responsible for the fact that I entered a company for the first time and had the opportunity to learn how the processes we learned about theoretically at the faculty work in the real world.

Maša Lipičnik, student of the Organization and Management of Information Systems programme
You get a wide range of knowledge, which I think is important to broaden your horizon and to understand certain things better. You also have enough time to deepen the knowledge you are interested in, and the professors can help you. You can also agree a lot of things with them. It's also worth getting involved in projects because you really see how theory translates to the real world.

Matevž Oman, student of Organization and Management of Information Systems
Studying at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences has enabled me to make a clear and fast transition from the student world to the business world with its up-to-date curriculum content. The balance between technical and social science-oriented subjects leads to a unique combination of skills that create a workforce that is not only employable, but also highly sought after. Opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities and to join societies and faculty bodies provide for the acquisition of informal, but at the same time very important, skills and knowledge, as well as for the acquisition of connections and acquaintances that have helped me many times in my career so far.

Nina Erjavc, Enterprise Engineering student
During the lectures, we were always free to ask any questions or give opinions, including criticism. The professors were also always available for questions, opinions or help after lectures, in tutorials or by email. They were always willing to provide additional knowledge that, for example, was not provided for in the syllabus/content.
