ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT OF
INFORMATION SYSTEMS - MASTER’S DEGREE
The objective of the Programme: The aim of the Master's degree program is to train experts in organization and management of information systems. In the course of the study programme students develop research, technical, analytical, communication and management (managerial) competencies that enable them to lead effective groups and manage business activities through information and communication (ICT) technology. With acquired analytical and conceptual knowledge they can follow technological innovations, solve complex problems and develop new solutions and approaches in the field of information systems.
Students develop the following competencies:
- ability to solve complex problems in the field of information systems,
- ability to lead an interdisciplinary team of experts,
- ability to apply sophisticated statistical and simulation methods in a business context,
- ability to develop software solutions independently and in groups,
- ability to make critical judgments in decision-making process,
- ability to assess the quality of software and guide the process of its development,
- ability to independently explore specific areas such as cybersecurity, software testing, the Internet of Things, data mining, and data science.
(Upon successful completion of study, students acquire the academic title of Magister organizator informatik)
Plenty of prospects for career development in this field, as experts in the field of information systems are highly sought after in Slovenia and beyond.
The students have to acquire the skills for an effective interpersonal communication, ability to work in a team, and ethical principles of the profession.
Moreover, the objective of the Organization and Management of Information Systems Master Study Programme is also to train the students for the design and implementation of solutions with the aid of the Information Technology in the way of improving the organization’s operation. Therefore, the graduate has to:
- Understand and model the organizational processes and data, define and implement the technical and procedural solutions, manage the projects, and integrate the systems,
- Master the techniques of data and information collection, conversion, transfer, and storage,
- Apply the Information Technology in order to help the individuals, groups, and organizations in achieving their goals.
The information activity in organization systems operates both internally as well as externally, but it may also present a fundamental activity of an organization. The perspectives of personal development in the field are excellent, as the profession covers broad professional fields and is in constant contact with new knowledge and technologies. Additionally, it can be said that it is among the most sought after professions in the EU.
Subject-specific competencies
A Master’s degree in the Organization and Management of Information Systems is centred primarily on the creation, research, and management of information systems and technologies. The Programmes’ contents are designed so that the acquired knowledge, besides the theoretical foundations, is focused also on the practical use at different levels of organization and management of business systems. Thus, the Master of Science is also equipped with the knowledge necessary for the work with technologies, supporting the use of information systems in various fields of Industry, Finance, Insurance, State Administration, Health Care, Education, Science, and Research.
The Master’s study is designed so as to enable the acquisition of knowledge from the fields of Information Systems, Information Technologies, Programme Engineering, and Computing. Moreover, the basic knowledge from the methodological subjects, Organization and Management, Economics, and Project Work enable a successful work in the multidisciplinary project groups, where the Master of Sciences can act creatively in a team, in a leading or other operational function.
With the acquired knowledge and experience from the field of Information Technologies, the Masters of Science are ready to lead, direct, propose, and coordinate the cooperation among the colleagues from the professional fields – the clients and internal and external developers of information systems. The extensive theoretical basis, gained during the studies, allows a critical approach towards the problems and the ability to recognise the demands of the environment, time, and long-term effects. Due to the broad spectrum of knowledge, the Masters of Science are trained for the planning and development of strategic information systems (management information systems, decision-support systems, etc.).
After the completed studies, the graduates are equipped with the tools necessary to solve even the most complex problems, and are able to solve the problems in a broad field of work. In addition to that, the graduates also master the managerial skills needed for an effective management of the organization.
