The origins of the conference activity date back to 1967, when the then Higher School of Work Organisation organised the Yugoslav Symposium on Responsibility in Work Organisations. The symposium was well attended, with 600 participants from all Yugoslav republics.

Later, in 1968, when the Centre for Functional Education and Counselling (today's Centre for Education and Counselling) was established, it took care of conference activities in the form of organising various consultations and conferences, in addition to its basic tasks of functional education and counselling.

Throughout its history, the Centre for Education and Counselling has organised various conferences and meetings: international conferences on the development of information science (later taken over by the Centre for e-Business); international conferences on adult education; conferences on education and training in the information society, the annual conference of work organisers - later the international conferences on organisational science.
