The name of the Programme: Master Study Programme (Second-Cycle): Management in Health and Social Welfare

The title obtained by the graduate: magister zdravstveno – socialnega managementa, magistrica zdravstveno – socialnega managementa (Master's Degree)

Duration: The study takes 2 years (4 semesters).

In collaboration with the University of Maribor, Faculty of Health Sciences, we offer a modern and attractive Postgraduate Study Programme (Second-Cycle) “Management in Health and Social Welfare” involving numerous renowned experts from practice and allowing the upgrade of the professional knowledge with managerial skills.

The objective of the Programme:

The essential objective of the Programme is the creation of a graduate, who, in accordance with the acquired competencies within the Study Programme, is needed by health, social and other institutions that plan to employ graduates with the purpose of their successful and efficient operation and the achievement of the set goals. Due to the fact that an organization operates as an open system and because it consists of individual interconnected elements, it is clear that all their components must be well-managed, which is indicated clearly by the fact – need for experts at all levels of governance and management.

The graduates will gain the competencies of managing the use of research methods, procedures and processes and critical and self-critical judgement in a working environment. In addition to that, they will be capable to prepare work studies and syntheses, and to predict the solutions and consequences of such transfer of acquired knowledge for use in practice. The graduates will be capable to work in a team while, at the same time, will also gain the competences of autonomy in the implementation of their professional work. Over the course of the Study Programme, the graduates will also gain the knowledge that will impact optimally on their communication capabilities and skills’ development, especially the communication in the working environment through the use of ethical reflection and commitment to professional ethics.

The students will acquire the following general competences:

  • Cognitive competences that form the basis of understanding, logical conclusion, and prediction,
  • Personal competences, which form the basis of individual maturation, development of accountability and the achievement of maturity,
  • Operative competences that present the basis of functional efficiency and literacy,
  • Relationship competences, which help develop the mutuality and cooperativeness,
  • Managerial competences, which provide the basis for the development of managerial and governance organization roles and
  • Organizational competences that give a basis for the usage and coordination of available resources in time and space.

The students of the Postgraduate Programme will acquire the necessary knowledge for:

  • The ability to understand the organization of health and social institutions, learning of new roles of the managers (formal authority, interpersonal relations, the role of information, decision role) and getting better knowledge of new methods of work.
  • The ability to understand the manager processes, knowledge of managerial functions and economics in health and social institutions.
  • The ability to use the information systems and information-communication technologies for an efficient and effective management, governance, and acceptance of decisions.
  • The ability to deal with people and to manage with all other resources, while considering the economic capabilities of health and social institutions.
  • The understanding of the impact of environmental factors to the health of people and employees and the influence of other factors on the health and social care systems.
  • The ability to plan and organize the operation of health and social institutions on the basis of recognition of epidemiological states.
  • The ability to consider the ethical views in the process of management and governance and in the organization of work in health and social institutions.
  • The ability to assess, provide, and improve the quality in health and social institutions and the knowledge of European and national policies for the development of quality.
  • The understanding of the legal framework as the basis for organization and functioning of health and social institutions.
